Faith And Patience

Faith and patience are partners in righteousness and doubt and impatience are partners in sin. When we are impatient we have somehow neutralized, suspended or weakened our faith.

Isaiah 28:16: Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

In context the passage concerns the sin and judgment of unbelieving Israelites and the blessing of believing Israelites.

Psalms 37:9: For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

Isaiah 40:31: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

The Lord knows when we need truth quickly or when it will be better if we have to wait for it. Interestingly, I did not have much time to prepare this particular article. I read less than a paragraph and probably less than a minute when the author I was reading quoted Isaiah 28:16. In about 35 years I have never found a more direct connection in scripture between faith and patience. It is unusual that the Lord would give me the truth for an article in less than a minute. In the future I don*t want to be presumptuous and will expect to dig around in scripture and prayer as long as it takes for the Lord to give me what I need. It is interesting that when I would write about patience at least this one time I would not need very much of it. There will be times when we need to make haste. And the blessing of the Lord is worth a life-time of waiting.
